The military spokesman for Yemen's Houthi movement has claimed that the group's forces have targeted and hit a Saudi Arabian Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet.

Al Jazeera reported early on Thursday, October 15, that the spokesman, Yahya Saree, made the claim in a post on the social media platform X. Saree stated that the aircraft had taken off from the Taif airbase in Saudi Arabia.

According to the statement, the Saudi fighter was targeted with an air-to-air missile while in the airspace of Saada province in northern Yemen. "The plane was directly hit and is now in danger of crashing," Yahya Saree added.

As of now, officials from the Saudi-led coalition, which is fighting the Houthis in Yemen, have not released any statement or confirmation regarding this claim. Independent verification of such incidents is often difficult and official acknowledgments can be delayed.

The Houthis have made similar claims in the past about downing coalition warplanes and drones, some of which were later confirmed. Saada province is a major Houthi stronghold and has been the scene of intense fighting throughout the conflict.

This claim comes amidst ongoing regional tensions and sporadic clashes between the Houthis and coalition forces. If confirmed, the downing of a Eurofighter Typhoon, one of the world's most advanced fighter jets, would represent a significant blow to the Royal Saudi Air Force.
