Local sources in Badakhshan province report that a violent clash occurred in Shahri Buzurg district after Taliban forces intervened to stop music being played at a wedding ceremony.

The incident took place on Saturday night, October 25, in the village of Vandian during the wedding of a man named Atiqullah. According to sources who spoke to Afghanistan International, Taliban forces went to the wedding venue to prevent music and celeatory gunfire.

This intervention led to a confrontation between Taliban forces and wedding guests. Local sources claim that during the clash, Qari Abdul Hadi, the Taliban's director of counter-terrorism police for the district, was killed. Additionally, two other Taliban members and at least two local residents were severely injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the clash began when Taliban forces allegedly opened fire on the local residents first. This action was met with retaliation from the wedding attendees, leading to violence.

Following the incident, Taliban forces have arrested at least 25 local residents who were present at the wedding. Sources report that the Taliban are continuing house-to-house searches and harassment of people in the area, causing fear and panic among the population. The Taliban government has not yet officially confirmed the incident.

After returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban banned all forms of oadcasting and producing music across Afghanistan. The group considers music to be contrary to Islamic law, and its forces from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice strictly enforce this ban.
