The Taliban government's Ministry of Finance has dismissed reports alleging delays in the payment of salaries for civil and military employees, labeling them as "rumors." The ministry assured that salaries would be processed according to the normal schedule.
In a statement released on Monday, October 26, the ministry announced that salaries for all government employees would be paid on time without any issues. This response came after some media outlets reported that the Taliban had postponed salary payments "until further notice."
The Finance Ministry's statement declared, "Rumors circulating in some media outlets regarding delays in salary payments are baseless." It urged government employees to disregard such reports.
This development occurs against a backdrop of frequent complaints from government workers about multi-month salary delays since the Taliban's return to power. Many employees, particularly in the initial months of Taliban rule, went without pay for extended periods.
Despite the ministry's assurances, economic challenges and liquidity shortages remain significant hurdles for the Taliban administration. Many public sector employees subsist on meager wages, and any delay in payment can create severe hardships for their families.
Economic experts believe that while the Taliban have made progress in domestic revenue collection, the country's economy remains heavily dependent on international humanitarian aid, and long-term financial stability still appears to be a distant goal.
