Residents of Dasht-e-Archi district in Kunduz province say that a rise in armed robberies at night has made life difficult for them. In an open letter, a copy of which was obtained by Zawya News, they have called on security officials to take serious measures to control the situation.
The letter, written by residents of the "Anjar" village in the district, states that thieves block roads at night, rob people on their way, and eak into their homes and shops. This situation has caused fear and anxiety among local people and has disrupted normal life, especially during the night.
One local resident, who did not want to be named, told the media, "We go to sleep with fear and anxiety every night. Armed robbers operate without any fear, and our security has been completely compromised." He added that several cases of theft from homes and shops have been reported in recent weeks, but so far no effective action has been taken to arrest the perpetrators.
The residents of Dasht-e-Archi are asking the Taliban government to increase night patrols and tighten security measures to prevent these incidents. "The relevant officials must take timely and effective measures to assess the issue and prevent potential incidents," they wrote in their letter.
Dasht-e-Archi is one of the more insecure districts in Kunduz province, in northeastern Afghanistan, which has previously witnessed extensive activities by anti-government armed groups. Although security has improved in many areas since the Taliban took power, criminal offenses such as theft and highway robbery still remain a serious challenge in some provinces.
Local Taliban officials in Kunduz have not yet formally responded to this complaint from the residents of Dasht-e-Archi, but they have previously promised to deal seriously with any lawlessness and criminal offenses.
