The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced on Monday, May 12, 2025, that it will provide cash assistance to 66,000 families in Afghanistan to support infants up to 18 months of age.
The project will be implemented in Zabul, Kunar, Samangan, and Ghor provinces, where malnutrition rates have been assessed as higher than in other Afghan provinces.
UNICEF stated that the project is being funded by the Central Asian Bank and other partners, with the allocated funds to be used for food supplies and medical treatment for infants.
This initiative aims to address the growing malnutrition crisis in Afghanistan affecting vulnerable children.
The United Nations has warned that the number of children suffering from malnutrition in Afghanistan will increase to 3.5 million this year.
This critical situation requires serious attention and more extensive measures to protect the health and future of Afghan children.
