The head of Iran’s Foreign Nationals and Immigration Affairs Center announced that 80,000 marriages between Afghan and Iranian citizens have been registered in the country.
Nader Yarahmadi stated that 40,000 cases involved Afghan men marrying Iranian women, while another 40,000 cases involved Iranian men marrying Afghan women.
Including the children of these families, they constitute a population of approximately 250,000 people.
According to the law, children born from these marriages can obtain Iranian identity documents if one of their parents is Iranian. Yarahmadi also announced that Afghan job seekers can receive 9-month work visas.
Iran claims that currently 4.5 million Afghan migrants are present in Iran, a figure that was approximately six million before implementing the unauthorized nationals’ exit plan.
Iran deported nearly two million Afghan migrants this past summer (July-September 2025).
