A new study presented to the UK Parliament’s Defense Committee reveals that at least 49 relatives and associates of Afghans whose information was leaked following a massive data breach by the UK Ministry of Defense have been killed.

The research was conducted among 231 Afghans who were informed about the data leak, with 200 of them receiving direct threats against themselves or their families.
This massive data leak occurred in February 2022, when a British naval officer mistakenly sent a list containing information about approximately 25,000 Afghan asylum seekers to an individual in Afghanistan, who then shared it with others.

Around 100,000 Afghans were put at risk of death, and nearly 24,000 Afghan soldiers and their families have been secretly relocated to Britain over the past five years.
British officials have announced that at least 49 cases of data breaches have been recorded in this department. Philip Ingram, a former British military intelligence officer, stated that the statistics are completely shocking and accountability must be demanded for this mistake. The UK Ministry of Defense responded that independent investigations show the likelihood of individuals being targeted solely due to their names appearing on the leaked list is very low.
