Bionca Ellis, a 34-year-old Cleveland woman, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Monday, October 28th, for fatally stabbing 3-year-old Julian Wood at a supermarket parking lot in June 2024.
Judge John Russo imposed the sentence for the attack where Ellis stole two knives and then stabbed the child while he sat in a grocery cart. The boy’s mother, Margot Wood, was also injured during the incident.
Ellis’s attorneys, who had entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, announced they will appeal the conviction and sentence.
Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley described this crime as “among the most heartbreaking” acts of violence he has witnessed.
