Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works of the Taliban group, announced that asphalt work inside the Salang tunnel has begun.
This action is part of the Salang highway reconstruction project that started in three different sections last year.
Previously, concrete work on the tunnel and galleries 15 and 16 of the Salang highway had been completed Now the Ministry of Public Works is applying a protective asphalt layer over the concrete inside the tunnel, and work is progressing in one lane.
It’s worth noting that the protective asphalt work in gallery 15 was previously completed.
The ministry has asked drivers to follow traffic rules and not to overtake while passing through the tunnel.
The Salang highway is one of Afghanistan’s most important commercial routes, connecting 9 northern provinces to Kabul.
