Japan has announced that Chinese fighter jets, in two separate incidents near the Okinawa Islands, locked their fire-control radar on Japanese military aircraft—a claim Beijing has denied.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called this action extremely dangerous and beyond what is necessary for safe flight, lodging an official protest with China.
Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi stated that Tokyo will respond to China’s actions firmly and calmly to maintain regional peace and stability.
In response, China accused Japan of approaching and harassing its navy, which was conducting military exercises in the area.
These tensions come amid a history of similar incidents involving radar locks and dangerous flybys between the two countries, raising concerns about escalating military tensions in the region.
