The UN Secretary-General’s quarterly report on Afghanistan states that from August 1 to October 31, a total of 2,737 security-related incidents were recorded, marking a 14.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Armed groups opposing the Taliban claimed responsibility for 41 incidents, mostly in Baghlan, Helmand, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Kunduz, Nimroz, Panjshir, and Takhar provinces.
The report notes a decrease in attacks by ISIS-Khorasan, while Taliban forces continued operations against the group.
Several border incidents with neighboring countries also occurred, some resulting in significant casualties.
The UN also highlighted increased restrictions on Afghan women staff in its offices.
Following a Taliban order banning Afghan women from UN offices, Taliban forces have stationed themselves outside UN compounds to prevent women’s entry, directly impacting UN operations in Afghanistan.
