Local sources in Daykundi province report that the Taliban have intensified their crackdown on female-led businesses, closing over 300 shops in Nili city.
Following a brief reopening, security forces raided the market on December 9, detaining and physically assaulting several women who rely on these businesses to support their families.
Taliban officials, including Deputy Governor Mawlawi Ehsanullah Rahmatyar, explicitly stated that their “Jihad” was fought to keep women at home.
They have ordered these entrepreneurs to move to a desolate area on the outskirts, a relocation costing up to 70,000 AFN, which is unaffordable for most.
While the detained women were released after providing heavy guarantees to remain silent, their shops remain sealed.
This systematic exclusion strips hundreds of vulnerable families of their only source of income, marking another severe blow to women’s rights in Afghanistan.
