The Taliban Ministry of Public Works has announced that the strategic Salang Pass, which was closed due to severe storms and heavy snow, has been reopened.
Currently, one lane has been cleared, allowing vehicles waiting on both sides to pass through.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, the ministry’s spokesperson, stated that operational teams are still busy completely clearing the route to allow full traffic flow.
This vital highway connects Kabul to the northern provinces and frequently faces closures during winter months.
Officials emphasized that if the snowfall stops and the storm subsides, the pass will be fully open for all vehicles by the end of Thursday.
Drivers and travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution on this route.
