In a disturbing incident in Raghistan district, Badakhshan, a resident named Abdul Ghafoor Ziai claims he received death threats from local Taliban officials.
He states he was imprisoned for three days without food simply for criticizing the Taliban on social media.
Ziai alleges that his brother was beaten by “Mawlawi Najib,” a Taliban commander who controls local gold mines, due to a personal vendetta.
He further claims the Taliban police chief threatened him directly, saying, “If you complain, I will sever your head from your body”.
Calling for justice, Ziai’s harrowing story highlights the severe risks facing citizens who speak out.
The incident underscores the lack of free speech and the impunity with which local commanders operate in remote regions.
