Local sources have confirmed that the Taliban has arrested Mohammad Mir Rasa, a prominent Uzbek cultural activist and employee of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), in Herat province. The arrest took place on Wednesday, January 28, and sources report that he has since been transferred to detention facilities in Kabul.

According to reports, Mr. Rasa was subjected to physical beatings by Taliban members following his arrest and is currently being held at the Ministry of Interior. The reasons behind his detention remain unclear, as the Taliban administration has not issued any official statement regarding the charges against him.

This incident follows a pattern of crackdowns on cultural and civil society figures by the Taliban, particularly targeting ethnic minorities. Recently, similar arrests of Uzbek activists have been reported in Baghlan province, raising serious concerns among human rights organizations about the safety of cultural workers in Afghanistan.
