Norwegian authorities have arrested an Afghan man suspected of involvement in the murder of former military officer Mohammad Tariq Waziri. The suspect initially approached the police as a witness, but his status was upgraded to a suspect following the discovery of new information linking him to the crime scene.
Police prosecutor Inger Lise Høyland stated during a press conference that the suspect’s movements and his acquaintance with the victim led to the arrest. While specific evidence has been withheld, authorities are confident that the individual is connected to the targeted killing that shocked the local community.
The murder has garnered significant media attention across Norway, coinciding with political tensions after the Norwegian government handed over the Afghan embassy to the Taliban. This development adds another layer of complexity to the lives of the Afghan diaspora currently residing in Scandinavia.
