Norwegian police have identified the 28-year-old Afghan man killed on February 7th as Mohammad Tariq Waziri. A former member of the elite Unit 222 of the Afghan National Security Forces, Waziri was fatally attacked outside his apartment in Bergen. His wife was also injured during the targeted assault.
Sources indicate that Waziri had played a significant role in counter-terrorism operations in Kabul, including the response to the Intercontinental Hotel attack in 2018. While police have not released full details, they confirmed that his military background in Afghanistan is a key element of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have described the incident as a targeted murder, noting that the victim and the perpetrator likely knew each other. While relatives insist Waziri had no personal enemies, this tragedy has sparked fear among the Afghan diaspora, particularly former military personnel living in exile in Europe.
