In an open letter to the President of the UN General Assembly, 33 human rights and women’s advocacy organizations have condemned the Taliban’s policies as a “systematic denial of humanity.” They argue that the deliberate exclusion of women from society constitutes gender apartheid and a crime against humanity.
The coalition calls for an immediate halt to all processes that normalize or legitimize the Taliban’s rule, specifically targeting the Doha process. They are urging the international community to use diplomatic and legal channels to prosecute Taliban leaders for their crimes against Afghan women.
This appeal coincides with the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, where Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett is scheduled to present a critical report on the situation. The groups warn that continued inaction not only harms Afghans but undermines the credibility of international law.
