Representatives for the family explained that the women pictured were simply Hawking’s long-term carers who accompanied him to assist with his physical needs. They described any suggestion of inappropriate behavior by the renowned scientist as “wrong and far-fetched in the extreme.”
The photo, released by the US Department of Justice, captures Hawking relaxing on a sun lounger. According to his family, the trip took place after a lecture, and the presence of his carers was standard procedure given his medical condition .
