Three residents from western Afghanistan told Amo that they cannot obtain Iranian visas legally and that visas are being sold on the black market for 100,000 to 150,000 Afghanis.

Following recent clashes between Iran, the US, and Israel, obtaining Iranian visas has become much more difficult for Afghans. Visa applicants say they are forced to migrate due to lack of work in Afghanistan but cannot afford the high cost.

Sources in Herat said Iranian visas are being sold through influential individuals, clerics, and local officials. Iran has stopped issuing work visas to Afghans for five years and only issues tourist and medical visas after difficult procedures.
