Local officials in Nangarhar confirmed that the Torkham border crossing was reopened for returning and deported Afghan migrants from Pakistan after a 20-day closure. However, this reopening was short-lived and lasted only a few hours.
The sudden closure was caused by fresh border clashes between the Taliban government forces and Pakistani border guards, which reportedly left one Pakistani soldier injured. Meanwhile, general trade and passenger travel remain completely suspended.
This critical crossing has faced extended closures over the past few months due to ongoing tensions. Despite recent negotiations between the Taliban government and Pakistan, a comprehensive agreement for normal operations has not been reached.
