Hundreds of media and human rights activists have sent an open letter to the United Nations demanding immediate action to release imprisoned journalists in Afghanistan. The letter was officially submitted by the Afghan Media Support Organization to the UN Secretary-General.
The signatories expressed deep concern over the ongoing detention of journalists like Shakib Ahmad Nazari and Hamid Farhadi. They emphasized that these individuals were arrested by the Taliban government solely for their professional reporting activities, which constitutes a blatant violation of free speech.
Activists warned that the physical and mental health of some detained journalists is rapidly deteriorating in prison. They strongly urged international organizations to increase diplomatic pressure to secure the unconditional release and safety of these media workers.
