The disaster management authority of the Taliban government has reported that at least seventy five people have died and three others were injured in drowning incidents across the country since late March. The victims include twenty seven men, seven women, and forty one children.
Officials have strongly urged citizens to strictly observe safety protocols, especially during the hot season and when river water levels rise. With recent heavy rainfall and flooding, drowning cases have surged in various provinces, prompting warnings to avoid dangerous water zones.
Over the past week alone, multiple drowning incidents were reported in Nangarhar, Panjshir, and Khost provinces. A lack of rescue facilities, low public awareness about the dangers of swimming in unsafe areas, and the frequent presence of children near rivers heavily contribute to the rising death toll.
