On World Press Freedom Day, the exiled organization supporting free media in Afghanistan, NAI, stated that freedom of speech no longer exists in the country. The watchdog claimed that domestic media outlets have been forced to become propaganda tools for the Taliban government.

According to NAI's statement, local journalists are compelled to justify the actions of the Taliban government under extreme pressure, replacing real journalism with fake news. Reporters are strictly prohibited from covering human rights abuses in various provinces and must focus solely on the meetings of government officials.

Since the Taliban government returned to power nearly five years ago, strict censorship has crippled the media landscape. Dozens of journalists have been imprisoned, prompting media advocates to urge the international community not to be deceived by the group's false narratives.
