The International Organization for Migration has reported that women returning to Afghanistan are facing severe livelihood challenges and a lack of job opportunities. In a recent report, the organization emphasized that the absence of adequate shelter and economic pressures have made rebuilding their lives extremely difficult.

According to the report, many of these women, who are the primary breadwinners for their families, are living in dire conditions. For instance, Parwana, a mother of three who returned from Iran to Herat province, had to start working in a tailoring shop to provide for her children, yet she still faces numerous obstacles.

Statistics indicate that in 2025, over 1.8 million undocumented migrants returned to Afghanistan. The International Organization for Migration stresses that providing targeted assistance is essential to prevent a deeper humanitarian crisis among these returning families.
