The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has urged the Taliban government to explain the legal basis for detaining three Afghan journalists. Expressing deep concern over the arrests, UNAMA demanded that their legal rights be fully respected during the judicial process.

The international body emphasized that a free and independent media is essential for transparency and the well-being of Afghan society. This reaction follows the detention of two TOLOnews reporters and a local news agency official, alongside an intelligence raid on the Moby Group office.

Since the Taliban government returned to power, extensive restrictions have been imposed on the media. Amnesty International has described these arrests as part of a broader pattern of intimidation against journalists, calling for an immediate end to arbitrary censorship and pressure on independent media in Afghanistan.
