Zamir Kabulov, the Russian special envoy for Afghanistan, has announced that the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) will be extended, but strictly under certain specific conditions. He noted that there are critical questions regarding the current activities of this entity.

The Russian diplomat emphasized that the international community must move beyond merely issuing public statements. He called for urgent and practical steps, either bilaterally or through the United Nations framework, to effectively address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country.

Earlier this year, the UN Security Council only renewed UNAMA's mandate for a brief three-month period. This unprecedented short extension occurred after the United States blocked a full one-year renewal to allow for a comprehensive review of the mission.
