The Taliban government has published a new law in its official gazette to strictly regulate the activities of religious preachers. According to this new legislation, all preachers must follow the Hanafi school of thought and are required to teach the virtues of jihad alongside general religious matters.
The law formally assigns the supervision of all preaching activities to the Ministry of Vice and Virtue. Consequently, religious propagation will no longer happen independently but will operate entirely within the administrative and monitoring framework of this specific ministry.
Critics strongly argue that such legal measures drastically expand ideological surveillance over society. However, the Taliban government insists these rules are a necessary part of organizing religious and social affairs in the country.
