The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported that Afghanistan has one of the highest maternal mortality rates globally. According to their recent findings, six hundred mothers lose their lives for every one hundred thousand live births in the country.

The organization highlighted that despite the dedicated efforts of female health workers and midwives to save lives during childbirth, restrictions imposed by the Taliban government on female staff have severely limited access to essential medical services, contributing to the rising death toll.

Recent studies indicate that the shortage of female healthcare professionals in hospitals, especially in rural areas, poses a severe threat to maternal health. Postpartum care remains the weakest link in the healthcare system, leaving many women without necessary medical attention after delivery.
