Local authorities in Panjshir province have announced that at least seventeen people have drowned in the raging waters of the Panjshir River over the past year. The majority of these tragic victims were domestic tourists visiting the scenic region.
The Taliban government police command in the province stated that these unfortunate incidents mostly occurred while individuals were swimming in dangerous and deep sections of the river. The water level of the Panjshir River rises significantly as the weather warms up.
Officials have urged all citizens and tourists to avoid swimming in areas where the water current is swift and the volume is high. In the most recent tragedies, a ten year old child and an eighteen year old boy lost their lives to the river.
