The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported a sharp increase in security incidents in its latest quarterly update. From February 1 to April 30, a total of 3,687 incidents were recorded, marking a 57.7 percent rise compared to last year.

During this period, opposition fronts claimed responsibility for numerous attacks against the Taliban government across various provinces, including Kabul and Herat. UNAMA also noted that while ISIS-K did not launch major attacks, it actively retains its operational capabilities.

The comprehensive report further highlighted the death of an Al-Qaeda commander in Pakistani military airstrikes back in February. Alarmingly, security events directly affecting United Nations staff members have also seen a considerable and worrying increase.
