The World Food Programme has announced that Iran has become the primary trade route for Afghanistan following the closure of borders with Pakistan. Currently, about sixty percent of Afghan trade is conducted through western routes. This major shift has significantly increased transportation costs and inflated the prices of essential goods.

Afghanistan is simultaneously battling multiple severe crises, including a sharp decline in global humanitarian aid and the massive return of migrants. These combined economic pressures have drastically worsened food insecurity across the nation.

Presently, nearly fourteen million Afghans are facing critical levels of hunger. International aid organizations strongly warn that if trade disruptions continue and funding drops further, millions more will be entirely deprived of basic food and survival services.
