Unknown gunmen have assassinated a former military officer named Mohammad Omar in the Jani Khel district of Paktika province. The incident took place on Tuesday when he was attacked by two armed men on a motorcycle.
The former soldier, who served in the police force during the republic era, had migrated to neighboring countries after the Taliban government returned to power. He had recently returned to Afghanistan to attend his brother's wedding.
His murder occurred just five days after the wedding ceremony. Another former military member was also mysteriously killed in the province on Monday, but Taliban government officials have not yet commented on these targeted killings.
