Local sources in Herat province have reported the assassination of Arbab Wakil Ahmad, a well-known former community leader from the Babahaji neighborhood. The deadly shooting took place in the Abul Walid area of the city.
Eyewitnesses stated that unidentified armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him before quickly fleeing the scene. The motives behind this targeted killing remain unknown, and no group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
The victim was known to be a close associate of Mohammad Ismail Khan, a prominent former Afghan political and jihadi figure. Local Taliban officials have not yet issued any statements regarding the incident.
