Reports indicate that three influential local figures and former Jihadi commanders were assassinated in Herat province over the past month. All three prominent men were shot and killed by unknown armed attackers in separate incidents.
Arbab Juma Gul and Arbab Wakil Ahmad were well-known former commanders who were murdered while returning home in Obe and Guzara districts. Mohammad Hussain, a former police commander, was also among the victims targeted during this deadly wave of violence.
Military analysts emphasize that the Taliban government holds absolute control over weapons and must take responsibility for these assassinations. In recent weeks, targeted killings of former military personnel and influential figures have also surged in Ghor and Daikundi provinces.
