During the Shanghai meeting, Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, emphasized the need for the Taliban to adhere to the “principle of inclusive politics and respect for the rights of all Afghans.” He called for the revival of the Contact Group for Afghanistan within the Shanghai organization to create a platform for practical cooperation.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan also urged the Taliban to take concrete and effective measures to prevent the use of Afghan soil against any country. He stressed the necessity for the Taliban to respect globally accepted principles, including participation and respect for the rights of all Afghans, especially women and girls.
Dar called for establishing “meaningful relations between the international community and the Taliban” to improve economic conditions and address the humanitarian situation of Afghans. On Monday, he traveled to Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, to participate in the two-day meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai organization.
