Seyyed Hassan Mortazavi, Iran's deputy ambassador in Kabul, stated that the Taliban's twenty-year war against the United States was "resistance," but the current armed opposition's war against the Taliban is not considered "resistance" by the Islamic Republic. He stressed that Iran does not support any anti-Taliban movement.

Speaking at a gathering in Kabul, Mortazavi said an "Islamic government" has been established in Afghanistan and advised opposition groups to resolve their differences through dialogue. He added that helping to overthrow the Taliban government has no "religious justification."

The remarks come as armed opposition attacks against the Taliban have intensified in Badakhshan province. Iran has maintained extensive political and economic ties with the Taliban since their return to power in 2021.
