Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, speaking at a consultative summit of Central Asian leaders and Azerbaijan in Kyrgyzstan, proposed that regional countries build large oil refineries to reduce dependence on fuel imports.
Rahmon highlighted the importance of developing transport corridors, energy infrastructure, industry, digitalization, and food security as shared regional priorities.
He also expressed concern over rising geopolitical tensions and called on regional nations to cooperate in addressing new security threats. Tajikistan currently imports most of its fuel from Russia and Kazakhstan.
