On the fifth anniversary of their takeover, the Taliban issued a message claiming they seek peaceful relations with all nations. Deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat released the statement on Saturday, August 15, calling the fall of the republic a "day of conquest."

The statement claimed Afghanistan pursues a policy of peaceful coexistence with the world and pledged that Afghan soil would not be used against any other country. The Taliban also called on other nations not to interfere in Afghan affairs.

These claims stand in contrast to the Taliban's record of border clashes with Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan over the past five years, and ongoing accusations of hosting armed militant groups including the TTP.
