Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, speaking at the fifth anniversary of the Taliban's return to power in Kabul, declared that opposition resistance would never succeed. The ceremony on Saturday, August 15, was attended by senior Taliban officials and ambassadors from Russia, China, and several other countries.
Muttaqi stated that standing against the Taliban system had never produced results in history and never would. He called foreign support for Taliban opponents a "failed experiment" and noted that such groups had always been defeated.
Muttaqi also criticized some Taliban officials for mistreating citizens, and asserted that Afghanistan poses no threat to any country. Five years after seizing Kabul, Russia remains the only country to have formally recognized the Taliban government.
