Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was transferred back to Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi in the early hours of Friday, after undergoing a medical examination at a private hospital in Islamabad.
Pakistan's Supreme Court had ordered his transfer to the Al-Shifa private hospital for examination and treatment. After several hours of evaluation, doctors determined his health condition was suitable for continued imprisonment. The Pakistani government had opposed the court order on Wednesday, but its review request was returned due to administrative deficiencies.
Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 and has been convicted in several cases. His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, announced it will hold nationwide protests on September 27 in support of his release.
