Several Pashtun political figures and activists praised Hasib Panjshiri, a National Resistance Front commander, following his death at the hands of the Taliban. Former National TV chief Ismail Mayakhel said Panjshiri chose to stay in Afghanistan after the fall of Kabul rather than flee or surrender.
Political activist Majid Qarar confirmed that Panjshiri was present inside Afghanistan, countering earlier claims that he had fled. Former Maidan Wardak governor Halim Fadaee condemned the Taliban's treatment of Panjshiri's body, saying the group violates even the basic ethics of war.
Both the National Resistance Front and Taliban media have confirmed Panjshiri's death. Sources say he was killed in a Taliban ambush along the northern Salang route.
