Mohammad Yusuf Wafa, the governor of Balkh province, met with Turkey's Ambassador Sadin Yildiz in Kabul on Thursday. The two officials discussed the expansion of economic, trade, and transit relations between Balkh and Turkey.
Haji Zaid, the spokesman for the Balkh governor, said the meeting was aimed at strengthening mutual cooperation. According to Zaid, Governor Wafa emphasized the historical and cultural ties between the two countries and called for increased Turkish investment in Balkh.
The spokesman added that the two sides also discussed providing facilities for traders from Balkh in Turkey. Furthermore, they talked about simplifying the visa issuance process for Afghan businesspeople and medical patients seeking to travel to Turkey.
Ambassador Yildiz affirmed his country's interest in expanding relations with Afghanistan, particularly with Balkh, which serves as a major commercial and transit hub. He promised to convey the proposals discussed to the relevant authorities in Turkey.
Balkh province, with its strategic location and the Hairatan commercial port, is a key economic center for Afghanistan. Developing its trade relations with Turkey could significantly contribute to regional economic growth.
Both parties agreed to continue these discussions to translate their talks into concrete actions and elevate the economic partnership.
