Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi sharply criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and the province's Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, during a press conference. He questioned why the party does not take a direct and clear position against the Afghan Taliban government, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and other armed groups he referred to as "fitna al-khawarij" (sowers of discord).

In his remarks, Mr. Kundi emphasized that these groups are responsible for killing army personnel and Pashtuns. He accused PTI of supporting militants and terrorists, stating that the party can never stand against terrorism. According to him, the party's silence regarding the violent actions of armed groups indicates their leniency and sympathy towards them.

The KP Governor challenged PTI leaders, stating that if they are bold and courageous in their statements, they should immediately stand with Pakistan's security forces and army. He added that fear has taken hold of the PTI-led provincial government, which is why they lack the courage to take a stand against armed groups.

These strong statements come as Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a senior PTI member, is currently organizing protests in Peshawar for the release of the party's jailed leader, Imran Khan. Kundi specifically addressed Afridi, saying that PTI leaders have not yet found the courage to raise their voice against the armed actions of the Afghan Taliban or the TTP.

This political tension between the federally-appointed governor and the PTI-controlled provincial government is escalating at a time when Pakistan is facing increasing security challenges from armed groups, particularly in the border regions with Afghanistan.
