Today, October 14, is World Standards Day. This day is celeated globally to raise public awareness and honor the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop international standards.

The date commemorates the first gathering of delegates from 25 countries in London in 1946. At this historic meeting, the decision was made to create an international organization to facilitate and coordinate standardization at a global level. This decision led to the establishment of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) one year later, in 1947.

World Standards Day was first celeated in 1970. The primary goal of the day is to emphasize the importance of standards in the global economy. International standards play a vital role in improving the quality of products and services, ensuring safety, facilitating global trade, and supporting sustainable development.

Each year, the day is marked with a specific theme that focuses on a key aspect of standardization. These themes help promote the concept that standards are powerful tools for addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and access to clean energy.

For a country like Afghanistan, which is on the path to reconstruction and economic development, adopting and implementing international standards is of particular importance. The Afghanistan National Standards Authority (ANSA) is responsible for developing and applying standards in the country, striving to align domestic products with global benchmarks.

This not only helps increase the quality and competitiveness of Afghan goods in international markets but also serves to protect domestic consumers and the environment. Celeating this day is an opportunity to reaffirm these important goals.
