A shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, has left four people dead, including three children, and two others severely injured. The deadly incident occurred on Thursday at Silver Rail Elementary School.
According to a report by Fox News, the victims of the attack were three children aged 5, 8, and 11, along with one teacher. A seven-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher were also critically wounded and transported to a hospital.
The report indicates that the assailant, a 16-year-old male, gained entry to the school by shooting through locked doors. Upon entering, he was confronted and shot and killed by an armed citizen.
The identity of the attacker and his motive have not yet been released as police continue their investigation. This incident has once again reignited the intense debate in the United States over gun control and school safety.
Mass shootings in American schools have become a distressingly frequent occurrence, claiming dozens of lives each year. Gun control advocates are calling for stricter laws on firearm sales and ownership, while opponents of such measures emphasize the right to bear arms as protected by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
