A senior Qatari official has stated that the future of Afghanistan must be determined through an inclusive, Afghan-led political process that fully respects the country's sovereignty and independence. The remarks were made during the Afghanistan Coordination Group meeting in Doha.
According to Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Musnad, the Minister of State for International Cooperation, made the statement on Tuesday, October 20, at the opening of the two-day event. The meeting, held on October 20 and 21, hosts representatives from various governments and international organizations to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
Ms. Al-Musnad expressed her gratitude to the international community, particularly Switzerland, the United Nations, the World Bank, and other partners, for their continued commitment and support for the Afghan people. She clarified that Afghanistan currently requires sustained engagement from the global community, clear priorities, and practical cooperation to navigate its crisis.
The Qatari minister of state recalled that her country has actively supported peaceful solutions to the Afghan crisis since 2013. During this period, Qatar has played a significant role in facilitating dialogue among various Afghan parties as well as between them and their international partners.
She added that hosting these meetings is part of Doha's diplomatic efforts to draw global attention to Afghanistan and find ways to support its people. According to her, stability in Afghanistan is not only vital for the well-being of its population but is also highly important for regional security, the development of economic ties, and the preservation of international peace.
This meeting takes place as Afghanistan faces severe economic and humanitarian challenges, and the international community is striving to find a coordinated approach to engage with the Taliban government and support the Afghan people.
