Local sources in Farah province report that a soldier from the former government was shot and killed by unknown armed individuals in front of his home. The incident occurred last week near the provincial center.
According to sources who spoke to the 8 Sobh newspaper on Tuesday, October 20, the event took place last Wednesday in the village of Qala-e-Mohammad. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Arif, who had served in the Farah police command before the Taliban's return to power.
After the fall of the previous government, Mohammad Arif had ceased all military activities and was not affiliated with any group. To support himself, he had opened a small shop in front of his house and was living a civilian life.
Based on information from the sources, the unidentified gunmen approached Mohammad Arif after evening prayers, using the darkness of night to conceal their approach, and killed him with direct shots. The attackers fled the scene after the assault, and their identities remain unknown.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the murder, but the incident has heightened concerns about the safety of former military personnel. Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021, numerous reports have emerged from across the country detailing arbitrary detentions, torture, and targeted killings of security and defense forces from the previous government.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly called on the Taliban to adhere to the general amnesty announced by their leader and to prevent revenge killings. However, reports from various provinces indicate that this disturbing trend continues.
