Taliban counter-narcotics officials in Badakhshan report that their forces have discovered and destroyed a heroin production factory in the province's Daraim district. A significant amount of narcotics and processing equipment was also seized in the operation.

Ehsanullah Mustaqim, the Taliban's director of counter-narcotics in Badakhshan, stated that the operation was carried out around 1 a.m. last night in the village of "Khairbek" in Daraim district. According to him, the factory was an active center for heroin production in the region.

Mr. Mustaqim added that during the operation, 84 kilograms of raw opium, which was prepared to be converted into heroin, were discovered and confiscated. Additionally, seven steam boilers (bilers) containing narcotics in the process of being manufactured were seized by security forces.

Various other tools and equipment used for drug production in the factory were also confiscated. The operation is described as part of the Taliban government's efforts to combat drug production and trafficking in the country.

Badakhshan province, located in northeastern Afghanistan, has been a major route for smuggling and a center for drug production in past decades due to its mountainous geography and shared borders with several countries.

After regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban government banned the cultivation of poppies and the production of all types of narcotics, launching operations across the country to destroy cultivation fields and production factories.
