Taliban have publicly punished five individuals in Maidan Wardak province on charges of adultery and theft. This event occurred on Monday, 23 Mizan, intensifying concerns about the group’s harsh judicial practices.

According to local sources, a woman and a man were each sentenced to one month in prison and 25 lashes for engaging in a relationship outside of marriage. Additionally, three other individuals received 25 lashes each for theft. These punishments were carried out in public, underscoring the Taliban’s commitment to enforce their strict interpretation of Sharia law.

This is not an isolated incident. Just last week, the Taliban administered similar punishments in Kunar province, and over the past month, approximately 30 individuals across various provinces have been subjected to physical punishments. Despite international condemnation and the outcry from human rights organizations, the Taliban continue to implement such measures.

The international community has repeatedly expressed concern over the Taliban’s governance tactics, particularly regarding their treatment of women and judicial harshness. However, these latest incidents highlight a troubling trend of increasing public punishments that show no signs of abating.
